Poetry

The Banshee

laughing, the boy played among the wavelets, wet sand sucked at his infant toes He tried to catch the sun sprites as they danced upon the water.

Seaweed caressed his bare legs, he played with their fairy fronds.

The gulls called his name, he shouted in return.

A cloud covered the sun.

And his mother wiped the sand from his infant toes, after she closed his drowned eyes

The banshee waited on the rocks, her robe drawn about her like a shroud.
